On Wednesday evening I'll be speaking on a panel–sponsored by Dissent, The Nation, and NYU's program in cultural reporting–about the role of private money in public education. The other speakers are writer Joanne Barkan, education researcher and school reformer Pedro Noguera, and New York City Charter Schools Center CEO James Merriman.
I'll talk about my on-the-ground reporting from Newark, New Jersey in the wake of the Mark Zuckerberg donation, and give my overall take on the influence of philanthropists on school reform.
