Where to Find Me

These days find me living in New York, commuting an hour each way to and from work, and with little time to keep up a personal blog. So to find my stuff:

Farewell, Aughts

It was a crap decade for the world, but a pretty good one for me…

Number of cities I lived in: 4 (New York, Providence, Paris, D.C.)

City whose food I miss most: Providence (best combination of price, quality, and variety)

Longest-running roommates: Lauren and Rachel (Sept. 2003-May 2006)

Rachel and Lauren

Weirdest research/writing interest: Circumcision

Longest-term employer: The American Prospect (July 2007-October 2009)

Work Wife: Ann Friedman

Dana and Ann

Sweet new job: The Daily Beast

Googleganger: Dana Lauren Goldstein, hotshot downtown photographer

Girlcrush: Hillary

Boycrush: Peter Sarsgaard

Coolest person I interviewed: John Hope Franklin

Biggest disappointment: John Edwards

Still proud to say: I’m a Feminist

Earnest liberal dream: Truly integrated schools

Film obsession: Germany (The Lives of Others, Downfall, The Baader Meinhof Complex)

Coolest city I visited: Berlin

Berlin

Favorite investigative reporter: Justin

Most interesting art show: Paired, Gold: Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Roni Horn

90s musician I’m still obsessed with: Fiona Apple

Musicians I’ll actually pay money to hear/see: Jens Lekman, Basia Bulat, Andrew Bird, Camille, The Magnetic Fields

Musicians that ended up disappointing me: Rufus Wainwright, Regina Spektor, The Decemberists

Best TV: “Mad Men,” duh

Regret of the decade: Should’ve partied harder in college (I didn’t learn to like beer until summer after senior year. I know. Pathetic.)

Totally grateful to: My long-term lady friends! (Rachel, Lauren, Eva, Philissa, Ruthie, Myra, Britt, Corinna…)

At this point, totally comfortable admitting: I’m a nerd, a wonk, and a homebody

But I still appreciate it when: Justin reminds me it’s a good idea to leave the house at least once a day. Even on Sundays.

Goals for 2010-2020: Defy the tumult in the journalism industry and continue writing and reporting on women, children, and political movements. And: Fewer migraines. Less anxiety. Learn to accept being a grown-up.
